There are three candidates for the two West Concord city council seats this fall. The Mayor, Jeff McCool is running unopposed.
Nick Kilen is running to be more involved with the our city and our community. Nick introduces himself, "It's currently just me and my dog, Davina, who I am sure you have seen us out walking, we go every day some days more than once."
Jeff Burse has held the city council position for five years. One of the important things that he feels he has accomplished has been keeping the taxes down for citizens of West Concord. He would like to see more of the unoccupied buildings purchased and renovated for businesses to grow in town. Jeff believes the strength of West Concord is everyone knowing their neighbors, which helps keep crime down and maintains the cleanliness of the town. He would like to see more activities in town to keep young families around. Jeff is originally from Mississippi and has a wife and two teenage sons. He enjoys outdoor activities and target shooting.
Karen Johnson and her husband moved to West Concord in March from Waterloo, Iowa to be closer to grandchildren. They have found the community to be welcoming and friendly. She names the parks and activities such as ballfields, volleyball, tennis, basketball & pickleball court, playgrounds and swimming pool as wonderful amenities for the city. Especially the library, bowling alley and Ginny's Drive In. She believes in shopping local and looks forward to getting to know more of her fellow citizens and help the town grow.
