A 32 year-old West Concord woman was killed in an automobile accident involving three vehicles on Monday December 30th . Scarlett Tanner of West Concord was involved in a head-on collision about 7:45am on Dodge County 24. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle collision in which the vehicles caught fire and one person was trapped in their vehicle. The road conditions at the time included dense fog and icy roads. Scarlet Tanner was traveling west in a 2019 Toyota Highlander and Elizabeth Albers was driving an east bound 2017 Ford Expedition when they collided head-on just past 120th Avenue. A passer-by, Erin Brose of Dodge Center, stopped to render aid and while they were standing in the ditch, an approaching pickup and trailer, driven by Ryan Thoe of Kasson, unable to stop in time took to the ditch to avoid the fiery crash.

Tanner and Brose were struck by the pickup and Tanner was killed by the impact and Brose was seriously injured and taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. The other person injured in the crash, Elizabeth Albers, of Owatonna was transported to the Owatonna Hospital. Mayo One was requested but due to the conditions was not able to respond to the accident so Gold Cross Ambulance from Owatonna was sent out.

West Concord Fire and Ambulance and Claremont Fire and First Responders were dispatched to the scene first followed by Dodge Center Fire and Ambulance. Investigators say that the icy roads and dense fog contributed were the primary factors in the collision and an unbelted motorist significantly increased the severity of the injuries. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department reminds everyone to buckle up when driving and slow down during the foggy conditions and when driving on the icy and snow-covered roads.
