Triton freshmen embrace their Wolf Ridge adventure

Posted

The Cobras were a week ahead of the extreme cold event in January for their annual freshmen Wolf Ridge adventure. The crew of freshmen, senior leaders, parents and teacher chaperones hit the road to the North Shore early on Thursday, January 15 looking forward to new experiences. The weekend was filled with team building, embracing challenges, and getting out of comfort zones - - and this year’s crew certainly represented Triton and our communities well!

The Wolf Ridge trip (now in its 35th year for Triton) continues to be an integral part of the high school experience for the Cobras. As we embraced the winter weather (and played in the snow!), students had opportunities to practice many of the skills that are part of the Triton Profile of a Graduate. That started on the first night, when we participated in team challenges which relied on us to work together to problem solve – and depend on each other. Students also practiced communication (without cell phones!) and grew in self-awareness as they pushed themselves out of their comfort zones, for many of them embarking on new (and sometimes scary!) adventure.

The senior leaders and chaperones did an incredible job setting the tone for a positive experience, encouraging, supporting, and engaging in all the things. We cross country skied, snowshoed, went ice fishing, climbed rocks, and traversed high ropes courses. We explored the natural and cultural history of the North Shore. We discovered that winter temperatures aren’t too bad when you just keep moving.

Our freshmen returned to school with smiles and lifelong memories that we’re certain to hear about when they graduate (and beyond).

As always, it takes a village to make this trip possible, and we are so grateful to the people that participated and the individuals and businesses that continue to support the journey. Special thanks to the following financial sponsors: McNeilus Steel, Rochester Area Foundation, Con-Tech, Dodge Center Lions, Triton Booster Club, AlCorn, the Marquardt and Somers families, Claremont Service Center, Kraemer Insurance, Safeway Agency, Freerksen Trucking, Hodgman Drainage, and Lloyd Henslin. Thank you, also, to the Triton Taher team for helping provide snacks.
